Quote of the Day, part XLIV

Me, during Family Home Evening: "How can we repent of 'persecuting your brother'?"
William: "Pick me! I just barely did it!"

Jacob, when I showed him the twin coverlet I had purchased for his bed right before we moved:
"I like that. Whoa, wait! Are we really going to get beds that big?"
Me, thinking that this boy has been sleeping on a camping cot on the floor for entirely too long.
This move didn't come a day too early!

Overdue

"Hey, so I called at about 2 am and nobody answered, so I figured you were probably having the BABY."

"You look like you're going to pop." / "You don't look big enough to be 10 months pregnant, ha-ha!"
"Have you tried eating some really spicey Chinese food, then walking? Worked for my grandma."
"When are you going to have that BABY? Weren't you due, like, two hours ago?"

"So are you going to get that BABY induced, because you look really swollen and uncomfortable."
"Have you tried walking backwards? That worked for my great-aunt."

"Haven't you tried castor oil yet? I mean, it makes you feel like you want to die, but it's worth it if it gets the baby out..."

"You're not lifting that, are you? Didn't you know that if you lift anything it will wrap the umbilical cord around the baby's neck and strangle it? I mean, I'm just saying..."

"And you should probably get your membranes stripped, because you've got to get things all "cleaned out" up there. And I heard from a friend of a second cousin of a bat that her baby was overdue, and it came out with fangs. Like the "egg tooth" gone wild - so you probably want to get that out as soon as possible. Cuz I'm a 19-year old nincompoop, and I know everything about BABIES."

And my favorite was when a very old lady approached me in church and started giving advice on what sorts of foreplay induce labor. I acted like I didn't know what she was talking about just to force her to specify. She squirmed and I enjoyed it.

P. S. For all interested: I am now 1 week overdue, and I'm not in labor. And I lift things all the time.

well, have you tried running up and down the local football stadium, jumping up and down consistently, sex, pumping, spicy food...oh wait, you are having your SIXTH child...and who has the gall to tell you how to get this kid here?? hilarious! good luck! we are happy for you! sorry you are overdue...we'll pray for milton/erma to make his/her entrance soon... actually, wouldn't it be funny if you waited long enough that michael had to deliver the baby himself in the car?? what a great story for posterity!

I realized yesterday that my back-patting on ordering the herbs I told you I'd get was very premature, because they're still here. {Darn darn darn!} I'm happy to mail you some anyway, as even a few days or a week can make a difference. And don't forget this!

I say go for a world record of longest gestation. Or at least tell people that's what you're doing. Or at least wait until my birthday on the 22nd. And then name the baby after me. Unless it's a boy.

When I was overdue with Roo I felt very strongly that Roo wasn't quite ready yet and if I forced her out by getting induced it would traumatize her. Now that I've gotten to know her personality this makes perfect sense.

I actually used that formula that Annalea links to when my labor with Roo was stalled. My water had been broken for 36 hours and my labor kept starting and stopping. Midwife took me on a long walk-- didn't work. So she made me take a nap and then gave me some of that formula and took me on another long walk and then we were in business.

Did you know Brita had a baby girl last Monday? They named her Bella Sophia.

I LOVE YOU!
Seriously... I'm sick of the comments and I'm not even OVER.DUE yet!
I do keep checking your blog to see pix of the next Allen baby... but I will NEVER comment about you NOT having THAT baby YET!
PS. My sister in law is now a week overdue too and she wants to go into hiding just so people will STOP talking to her!

I agree with Mauri. I think people who have successfully carried and delivered 5 babies usually understand how things work. And I must say, your pregnancy has gone very fast for me. :)

You look gorgeous as ever!!! So what if the baby's a little late, it will just give you that much more time to get things ready, right? :)

Oh Anna! Have I told you lately how much I love you! Especially because you've managed to endure all the comments without actually killing anyone. Commendable!

P.S. What kind of foreplay DOES induce labor? :-)

What about when you go to church and people sigh very sadly and say with a frown, "I really hoped I wouldn't see you here this week."

That makes you feel good right..people HOPING they don't see you :)

Call me from your hospital bed...pretty please!

Anna, you wear pregnancy so well it is hard to watch. You look hot and I am sorry people are dumb. If it wasn't likely the baby will be here any day I'd make you a t-shirt that says "If you say I look like I'm about to pop I'll pop you."

When you go a week over, you have eleven pound babies. At least that's what happened to me. haha! Your belly at a week over looks like mine right now at 20 weeks though, so I bet your safe! haha.
